McDonald’s has registered ten trademarks in virtual spaces. Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney, tweeted about the filing. He said that McDonald’s had submitted the trademark applications February 4th. Gerben says that the applications ask permission to upload “downloadable multimedia files”, which can include audio, video and artwork. Credit: McDonald

McDonald’s filed trademarks to “Operating an online virtual restaurant with home delivery”, and “Operating an actual and virtual restaurant featuring real and virtual goods”. One of the applications was for “downloadable multimedia file”.

What’s more? The metaverse trademark application also included the McCafe brand. It intends to trademark online actual and virtual concert as well as entertainment services within its virtual McCafe. This will enable the virtual destination to host various concerts and celebrity appearances that are increasingly popular.
McDonald’s is not the only company trying to enter the metaverse. Panera Bread, an American bakery and café chain, has filed a similar trademark application to create a virtual cafe and restaurant chain called “Paneraverse.”
McDonald’s seems to be joining other big brands like Nike and Walmart in preparing for the metaverse explosion. It’s also possible that the metaverse will become more popular and more people will enter virtual space. We’ll also see virtual avatars ordering food at a virtual McDonald’s as an in-game activity.
